Jindal Steel, Angul, paid a heartfelt tribute to its visionary founder, Om Prakash Jindal (fondly known as Bauji), on the occasion of his 95th birth anniversary. A series of commemorative events were organized across the Angul plant and township to celebrate Bauji’s enduring legacy of nation-building through industrial self-reliance.
Marking the occasion with a significant inauguration, Chairman Naveen Jindal dedicated a newly developed swimming pool at Jindal Nagar to promote health and fitness among employees and their families. Addressing the gathering, Jindal encouraged all residents of Jindal Nagar to make the most of such facilities to maintain a healthy lifestyle, adding humorously that it would help them “stay away from doctors.”
Remembering his father on social media, Naveen Jindal shared a heartfelt message: “Bauji, Shri Om Prakash Jindal, was not only a great industrialist but also a true karmayogi, public servant, social reformer, and a visionary torchbearer of a self-reliant India. His thoughts, values, and principles continue to guide us even today. On his birth anniversary, we offer our heartfelt tributes.”
Further commemorating the day, Vice-Chairman VR Sharma inaugurated the Naveen Jindal Skill Centre for Advanced Welding Technology. This new facility is aimed at upskilling the company’s workforce in alignment with evolving industry standards. Speaking at the event, Sharma stated, “Today, the O.P. Jindal Group is responsible for producing nearly 40 per cent of India’s steel and has provided direct and indirect employment to around 4 to 5 lakh people. All of this has been made possible because of Bauji, who dreamt of a self-reliant India.”
The tribute saw the participation of Pankaj Malhan, Executive Director In-Charge, Angul Location, and Damodar Mittal, Executive Director – Projects, along with all departmental heads, employees, their families, and residents from nearby villages, who gathered in large numbers to honour the legacy of the “Man of Steel.”
In the afternoon, the district-level OP Jindal Cup Football Tournament was inaugurated at Kadam Padia, Angul. The opening ceremony was graced by Akshaya Kumar Samant, Chairman of Angul Municipality, as the chief guest, with Pratap Preetimay, Additional District Magistrate of Angul, and Atul Dubey, President of Jindal Steel, Angul, serving as guests of honour.
Underscoring its commitment to social responsibility, the Jindal Foundation distributed dry ration kits to several senior citizen homes across the district as part of the day’s outreach activities.
On the educational front, students and teachers from OP Jindal School and DAV Savitri Jindal School came together to offer a spiritual tribute through mass prayers and a hawan ceremony, reflecting the deep respect and admiration for Bauji’s life and legacy.
