JSW Cement, part of the diversified US$23 billion JSW Group, has strengthened its presence in eastern India with the commissioning of a new, state-of-the-art cement grinding unit at Sambalpur in Odisha, through its subsidiary Shiva Cement.
Aligned with the company’s strategy to expand its market footprint in eastern India and meet the region’s growing demand, the new facility has been funded and managed by Shiva Cement — its majority-owned subsidiary — under a commercial arrangement with Bhushan Power and Steel Limited (BPSL). The plant has a production capacity of 1.0 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), dedicated exclusively for Shiva Cement’s use and consumption. With this addition, the total installed capacity of JSW Cement and its subsidiaries has now reached 21.6 MTPA.
Announcing the commissioning, Nilesh Narwekar, Chief Executive Officer, JSW Cement, said, “The eastern region of the country is poised for exponential growth in the coming years. With rapid industrial and infrastructure expansion, Odisha is playing a pivotal role in driving economic growth in the region. This new world-class facility in Sambalpur is a strategic initiative by JSW Cement and a major milestone in our journey to strengthen our leadership in this market. The unit will further enhance our eco-friendly operations and reinforce our commitment to sustainable growth.”
Shiva Cement’s plant is strategically located at the tri-junction of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, ensuring proximity to key raw materials essential for cement production.
JSW Cement continues to make strong progress on its approved expansion plan aimed at achieving a pan-India presence, with a targeted grinding capacity of 41.85 MTPA and clinker capacity of 13.04 MTPA. The company’s upcoming integrated unit at Nagaur, Rajasthan — with 3.30 MTPA clinker and 3.5 MTPA grinding capacities — is on track for commissioning as scheduled.
JSW Cement also continues to maintain its position as one of the most environmentally responsible players in the industry, with one of the **lowest CO₂ emission intensities at 277 kg per tonne of cementitious material in Q1 FY26.
