Observing World Disability Day with a strong message of inclusion and empowerment, Navratna CPSE National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) organised a series of assistive device distribution camps across Angul, Damanjodi and Bhubaneswar as part of its ongoing CSR outreach. The initiative focused on enhancing mobility, independence and overall quality of life for Divyangjans residing near the company’s operational units.

The simultaneous camps began at NALCO’s Smelter & Power Complex in Angul, where Brijendra Pratap Singh, CMD, NALCO, along with Tapas Kumar Pattanayak, Director (HR), and Pankaj Kumar Sharma, Director (Production), distributed assistive devices to beneficiaries. Senior officials of the Complex were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Singh reaffirmed NALCO’s commitment to inclusive development, noting that the company continues to prioritise meaningful CSR interventions that uplift vulnerable communities.

In Bhubaneswar, the camp held at Bhima Bhoi Government High School saw the distribution of assistive devices to 76 visually impaired students. The event was graced by Jagdish Arora, Director (P&T), Abhay Kumar Behuria, Director (Finance), along with senior officials from NALCO and the NALCO Foundation.

At the Mines & Refinery Complex in Damanjodi, 40 beneficiaries received 83 assistive devices today. Overall, 189 beneficiaries from nearly 200 peripheral villages of the Complex are slated to receive various aids, including prosthetic limbs for four individuals, enabling improved mobility and confidence.

NALCO’s CSR arm, NALCO Foundation, is coordinating the initiative in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) and with support from the District Administrations of the Government of Odisha. A total of 687 assistive devices are being distributed, including battery-operated motorised tricycles, wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, hearing aids, smartphones with screen-reading features, Sugamaya canes and other mobility aids.

Altogether, more than 400 beneficiaries from 44 peripheral villages of Angul, around 200 villages surrounding Damanjodi, and visually impaired students in Bhubaneswar are being covered under the initiative. NALCO has also signed an MoU with ALIMCO to systematically identify and support PwDs/Divyangjans with appropriate assistive devices, further promoting accessibility, dignity and long-term community development.

Through sustained efforts such as these, NALCO continues to reinforce its dedication to building an inclusive and empowered society across its operational regions.
