NTPC Northern Region Headquarters marked World Environment Day with fervent participation and a renewed commitment to sustainability, aligning with this year’s global theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally.” The observance served as a powerful reminder of the organization’s dedication to environmental consciousness and responsible practices.
The day began with an Environment Day pledge administered by N.S. Rao, Regional Executive Director (North), in the presence of dignitaries including Vijaya Rao, President of Uttara Club; K.K. Hota, CEO of NUGEL; Samiran Sinha Ray, Regional Head-HR; and Sangita Singha Ray, Vice President of Uttara Club, alongside senior officials and employees.
A symbolic tree plantation drive was carried out within the office premises, led by Shri Rao, reinforcing NTPC’s commitment to afforestation and greener workplaces. Speaking on the occasion, Rao emphasized the urgency of reducing plastic use and cultivating conscious habits. “This year’s theme is highly relevant. While we have improved our tree plantation efforts, the widespread use of plastic persists due to a lack of self-discipline and awareness. We must collectively reject single-use plastics to adopt more sustainable lifestyles both professionally and personally,” he said.
Vipul Srivastava, AGM (Environment Management/OS), elaborated on the significance of the day, underlining the pressing need for proactive environmental stewardship. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees, reflecting a united front in NTPC’s mission to drive environmental change and promote eco-conscious living.
