The Northern Region Headquarters (NRHQ) of NTPC Limited celebrated the 79th Independence Day in Lucknow on Friday with patriotic fervour, reinforcing its commitment to power India’s growth through sustainability and innovation. The celebrations began with the hoisting of the tricolour by Goutam Deb, Regional Executive Director (North), who paid solemn tribute to the martyrs whose sacrifices secured the nation’s freedom.

Addressing the gathering, Deb lauded NTPC’s remarkable 50-year journey from its first power project in Singrauli to its present position as India’s largest power producer, contributing 25 per cent of the nation’s total electricity generation. With an installed capacity exceeding 82 GW across coal, gas, hydro, solar, wind, nuclear, and biomass, NTPC is charting an ambitious course toward 130 GW by 2032, including 60 GW from non-fossil sources.

Highlighting the Northern Region’s strategic role as NTPC’s largest operational zone, Deb noted that it generates 27 per cent of NTPC’s total power output and has achieved significant milestones this year, including the commissioning of the NOKH Solar Project. The region’s Rihand and Singrauli plants ranked third and fifth, respectively, in NTPC’s Thermal Plant Load Factor (PLF) rankings with PLFs of 87.73 per cent and 85.23 per cent. Dadri, Jhajjar, and Rihand also led in ash utilization, helping the region achieve an 84 per cent utilization rate.

Underscoring the company’s dedication to workplace safety and environmental stewardship, Deb spoke of NTPC’s “Zero Harm” vision and green initiatives, including planting over two lakh saplings in FY 2025. He also outlined the region’s extensive CSR engagement, from healthcare and rural infrastructure development to the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM). The Welfare Wing of NTPC-NRHQ — Uttara Club — was commended for impactful social initiatives, including the donation of five motorized tricycles to differently-abled beneficiaries under CSR leadership by Bipasa Deb, President, and Sangita Singha Ray, Vice President.

The event also honoured employees and their families with the Medha Pratiyogita awards, celebrating excellence and participation. The day’s festivities culminated in the symbolic release of tricolour balloons, embodying the values of unity, pride, and independence.
