In line with the Swachhta Pakhwada observance from May 16 to 31, 2025, NTPC Northern Region Headquarters (NRHQ), Lucknow, organized a comprehensive awareness session focused on Waste Management and Environmental Protection for its employees.
The session was inaugurated by N.S. Rao, Regional Executive Director (North), who extended a warm welcome to the guest speaker, R.K. Singh, Former Head of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Regional Directorate, Lucknow, under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
In his keynote address, Singh provided in-depth insights into critical aspects of sustainable waste management and environmental conservation. Drawing from his extensive experience, he particularly emphasized best practices in industrial waste handling, citing NTPC’s ongoing initiatives as exemplary models. He urged the adoption of proactive and cleaner technologies to minimize waste generation and its ecological impact.
Highlighting the role of individual responsibility, Singh advocated for simple yet effective lifestyle changes—such as using reusable bags instead of polythene, and ensuring proper disposal of milk pouches. His message, “If you cannot reuse it, refuse it,” resonated strongly with the audience as a guiding principle for sustainable living.
The session was highly interactive, with employees enthusiastically participating in discussions and seeking clarity on practical aspects of eco-friendly practices. Common misconceptions around household waste, plastic usage, and sustainable alternatives were addressed, fostering a deeper understanding and commitment to environmental stewardship.
