“Our doctors, nurses, and medical staff are the true champions of community health. Their unwavering commitment and tireless service have brought quality healthcare within reach for lakhs of people who need it the most. On Doctor’s Day, we salute their spirit and reaffirm our resolve to support them in their mission to create healthier, more empowered communities,” said Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, as the company celebrated National Doctor’s Day by honouring its dedicated medical professionals.
Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, today paid heartfelt tribute to its 105 doctors and 455 medical staff whose relentless efforts continue to transform the healthcare landscape across some of the most underserved regions in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Serving over five lakh people, the company’s expansive medical network spans hospitals, diagnostic centres, mobile health units (MHUs), and health camps, ensuring that high-quality healthcare is accessible even in India’s most remote corners.
From providing over 3.5 lakh outpatient consultations to treating more than 54,000 cancer patients and restoring vision to 1,500 individuals through cataract surgeries, Vedanta’s healthcare teams have left a profound impact on countless lives. These services are delivered through an integrated medical ecosystem anchored by flagship institutions like the BALCO Medical Centre in Naya Raipur — a 170-bed world-class oncology hospital known for its affordable and comprehensive cancer care — and further supported by diagnostic centres in Jharsuguda and Laikera, the largest of their kind in Western Odisha.
The BALCO Medical Centre alone has conducted over 10,000 surgeries, emerging as a beacon of hope for cancer patients from across the region. Meanwhile, Vedanta’s diagnostic centres have provided advanced radiology and pathology services to more than 57,000 patients, significantly reducing the burden of long-distance travel and associated healthcare costs.
In remote and tribal villages, the company’s fleet of Mobile Health Units — each staffed with a doctor, nurse, lab technician, and pharmacist — continues to bridge critical gaps in healthcare access. These units offer free consultations, medicines, and diagnostic services at the doorstep, while also holding regular awareness sessions on crucial issues such as hypertension, diabetes, maternal and child health, menstrual hygiene, and prevention of chronic illnesses.
Vedanta’s approach to community health is holistic. Regular mega health camps, specialized eye care drives, and assistive device distribution programs have become lifelines for thousands. Ongoing awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, cancer, nutrition, and substance abuse have made significant strides in health education and behavioural change.
In the past year alone, Vedanta Aluminium’s medical teams have marked major health observances with meaningful community outreach. On World Health Day, a multi-specialty health camp benefited 377 individuals, while a blood donation drive collected 32 units of blood. On World Tuberculosis Day, 545 patients received nutritional support, leading to 171 successful recoveries. During World Breastfeeding Week, an awareness campaign reached 350 mothers, and 11 mega health camps held across 227 villages served over 3,400 people. The cataract surgery initiative, which restored eyesight to 1,507 patients, further exemplified the transformative power of community-focused healthcare.
As Vedanta Aluminium celebrates Doctor’s Day, it celebrates the unwavering compassion, skill, and dedication of its healthcare heroes — doctors, nurses, and frontline medical staff who work every day to heal, educate, and uplift. The company remains resolute in its mission to expand healthcare infrastructure, deepen its community outreach, and empower its medical teams with the resources they need to continue delivering life-changing care where it is needed most.
