Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has etched its name in history by becoming the fastest Indian major port to achieve 75 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo throughput in a financial year. The milestone, reached within just six months of FY 2025-26, surpasses all previous records across Indian ports and reflects the port’s rising efficiency and operational strength.
The port has registered a 5.03 per cent growth in cargo handling compared to the corresponding period last year, attaining the landmark 10 days earlier than in the previous fiscal. Among the key drivers of this surge are crude oil, which surged 19.34 per cent to 17.22 MMT, coastal thermal coal loading that touched 22.51 MMT with 4.3 per cent growth, and flux material, which rose 19 per cent to 2.97 MMT.
Commenting on the achievement, P.L. Haranadh, Chairman of PPA, expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, for his leadership and support. “Together, with the unwavering support of our dedicated workforce and strong backing from our customers, we shall continue to script remarkable success stories for Paradip Port — a story that exemplifies growth, sustainability, and a brighter future,” he said.
He also extended appreciation to officers, employees, user industries, stevedores, trade unions, and PPP operators whose collaboration has been instrumental in securing this feat.
With this accomplishment, Paradip Port has further reinforced its stature as one of India’s foremost maritime gateways. Backed by robust strategies, enhanced operational efficiencies, and ongoing infrastructure expansion, PPA is confident of surpassing its cargo throughput target for FY 2025-26 and continuing its upward trajectory in the nation’s port sector.
