Paradip Port Authority marks 100 years of Indian Hockey with grand celebration, announces new hockey stadium

Paradip Port Authority celebrated the centenary of Indian Hockey with great zeal and patriotic fervour at the Gopabandhu Kreeda Sansad, turning the occasion into a spirited tribute to India’s glorious hockey legacy. The event not only showcased the essence of teamwork and sportsmanship but also reaffirmed Paradip Port’s unwavering commitment to nurturing sporting excellence.

The celebration witnessed a thrilling hockey encounter between the Paradip Port Team and the Chatrapur Team, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. The Paradip Port Team triumphed with an impressive 3–1 victory, adding to the festive atmosphere of the day.

Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, P. L. Haranadh, Chairman, Paradip Port Authority, lauded the contributions of Indian hockey to the nation’s sporting identity and emphasized the importance of creating platforms for young athletes.

Himansu Sekhar Rout, Chief Engineer, Paradip Port Authority, attended as the Guest of Honour, extending his encouragement to the players and organizers for their exemplary efforts in promoting the game.

To honour the legacy of Indian hockey and recognize local talents who have brought pride to the state and nation, Paradip Port Authority felicitated outstanding contributors to the sport. Olympian and international player Namita Toppo and national player Rashmita Minz were each presented with a cash award of ₹25,000, while renowned coach Kalu Charan Choudhury received a cash award of ₹11,000 for his lifelong dedication to developing hockey talent.

In a landmark announcement that drew resounding applause, the PPA Chairman declared the establishment of a new Hockey Stadium at Paradip Port. The upcoming facility, he said, would serve as a hub for grooming young players and hosting major tournaments, further strengthening Paradip’s growing reputation as a centre for sports development in Odisha.
