PARADIP, SEPTEMBER 17, 2025
Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has taken an active lead in the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 campaign, a nationwide cleanliness drive being observed from September 16 to October 2, 2025. With the theme “Swachhotsav,” the campaign emphasizes clean and green festivities and the importance of zero-waste community celebrations.
The observance of the campaign at Paradip Port began with the administration of the Swachhata Pledge to Heads of Departments, Deputy Heads of Departments, officers, and employees by P.L. Haranadh, Chairman of PPA. This symbolic beginning set the tone for a series of impactful initiatives aimed at promoting sanitation, sustainability, and community participation.
As part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0” plantation drive, the Engineering and Civil Maintenance Division of PPA carried out a massive tree plantation at Paradip beach, coinciding with the 75th birthday celebrations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under this green initiative, as many as 40,000 saplings were planted to strengthen green belt development and coastal eco-balance. In another community outreach effort, PPA joined hands with Paradip Municipality to organize an awareness rally promoting eco-friendly and plastic-free celebrations during the Biswakarma Puja festival. To reduce plastic usage, reusable cotton bags provided by Paradip Saksharata Samiti were distributed for festival essentials.
On the auspicious occasion of the Prime Minister’s birthday, PPA also recognized the invaluable contribution of its Safai Mitras by presenting dress materials and sarees to 157 sanitation workers, reinforcing dignity of labour and motivating them in their mission of maintaining a clean and green environment.
Chairman P.L. Haranadh also inaugurated two unique installations at the PPA Administrative Building — spectacles of Mahatma Gandhi and a marine anchor — both crafted from scrap materials. This “Scrap to Structure” initiative not only adds to the beautification of the premises but also showcases the creative reuse of waste materials as a model of sustainability.
Further highlighting its commitment to social responsibility, PPA organized a blood donation camp at the Paradip Port Authority Hospital. Led by the Chairman and senior officials, the drive collected 75 units of blood, underlining the organization’s dedication to building a healthier and stronger society alongside its cleanliness initiatives.
During the fortnight-long campaign period, PPA has outlined a comprehensive plan that includes awareness drives among local school students, the display of swachhata awareness hoardings, the deployment of a “Swachhata Rath” or cleanliness chariot, cleaning of pump houses, installation of digital displays at key township locations, and community engagement through human chains and street plays.
Through these wide-ranging efforts, PPA is not only supporting the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign but also contributing meaningfully to the broader vision of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. With its initiatives combining environmental protection, community empowerment, and social responsibility, Paradip Port Authority continues to demonstrate leadership in transforming public spaces and inspiring collective action for a cleaner, greener India.
