As the sacred city of Puri prepares to welcome millions of devotees for the iconic Rath Yatra, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) — a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha — is reaffirming its commitment to seamless power supply during this grand spiritual celebration.

With an anticipated peak load of 74 MW during the festivities, TPCODL has ramped up its infrastructure to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply, crucial for the smooth conduct of the Yatra. The company has deployed a robust installed capacity of 170 MVA in Puri Town, underscoring its proactive planning and dedication to operational excellence.

To bolster reliability and maintain N-2 redundancy, TPCODL has installed four high-capacity 12.5/16 MVA Power Transformers (PTRs), significantly enhancing the local power network. These strategic upgrades will enable effective load management even during unanticipated spikes in demand, ensuring devotees and organizers experience an uninterrupted and safe celebration.

Behind the scenes, over 700 trained professionals will be working round-the-clock, supported by TPCODL’s state-of-the-art Power Distribution Technology Centre in Bhubaneswar. Extensive preventive maintenance has already been conducted across the entire grid — from 33/11 kV substations to HT/LT switchgear systems, overhead lines, and underground cabling — ensuring the infrastructure is in peak condition.

In addition, TPCODL has strategically positioned mobile transformers, fault locators, cranes, man-lifters, and spare transformers throughout the area to ensure a swift response to any potential disruptions.

Public safety remains paramount. TPCODL has implemented a series of safety measures including leakage current inspections, fire extinguishers at substations and offices, insulating paint on critical equipment, and fencing around distribution transformers to prevent accidental contact.

Speaking on the preparations, Arvind Singh, CEO of TPCODL, said: “The Rath Yatra is not just a festival — it’s a deep cultural and spiritual phenomenon that unites millions. We take immense pride in powering this divine journey. Our teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that Puri remains illuminated, safe, and vibrant during every moment of the Yatra. Our commitment goes beyond power — it is our tribute to the faith and fervor of the people.”

With unwavering dedication and world-class infrastructure, TPCODL continues to empower the spirit of Rath Yatra 2025 — lighting the way for one of India’s most celebrated spiritual events.
