World AIDS Day was observed at Paradip Port Authority (PPA) Hospital with a renewed call to strengthen the global fight against HIV under this year’s theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response.” The observance underscored the need not only to safeguard hard-won progress but also to reshape HIV services to be more resilient, inclusive and community-driven. The theme further highlighted the urgency of addressing disruptions triggered by pandemics, conflicts and persistent inequalities that hinder access to life-saving care. Across India, the day is marked with nationwide awareness drives, community engagement activities and renewed commitments led by the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
To commemorate the occasion, PPA Hospital organised a walkathon as part of its IEC campaign to spread awareness on AIDS among residents of the Port Township. The walkathon began at PPA Hospital and concluded at the Officers’ Club. PPA Chairman P. L. Haranadh, administered the pledge to the gathering and flagged off the awareness march.
Deputy Chairman T. Venu Gopal, doctors, paramedical staff of PPA Hospital, HoDs of PPA, CISF personnel, members of the Paradip Saksharta Samiti, volunteers from NGOs IRDMS and CASD working on AIDS awareness, members of the transgender community and local residents participated with enthusiasm. Staff members and volunteers wore symbolic red ribbons to honour the global movement against HIV/AIDS.
Besides, screening camps for truckers were conducted at Gate No. 1 and Gate No. 3 in collaboration with CASD and IRDMS. A total of 206 individuals were screened, with no positive cases reported.
