Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) has been honoured for its exemplary contribution to the restoration of the mangrove ecosystem in Odisha, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience. The recognition was conferred during a special workshop held on July 26 in Bhubaneswar to mark the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, an annual UNESCO-designated observance celebrated worldwide since 2016.
The workshop, themed “Appropriate Technology for Community Action,” was organised by the Centre for Research and Community Action Trust (CeRCA) and focused on strengthening community-led initiatives in ecological restoration. Odisha, with over 500 kilometres of coastline, is particularly vulnerable to climate change and coastal degradation, making mangrove conservation a critical priority.
Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, Minister of State for Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Labour & Employees’ State Insurance, Government of Odisha, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and presented the felicitation to PPL. The Minister commended the company’s unwavering support and sustained efforts in regenerating mangrove forests and raising awareness on their significance in combating global warming and climate change.
Receiving the honour on behalf of PPL, Sumit Senapati, Chief General Manager (HR & IR), expressed gratitude and reaffirmed the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship. The ceremony highlighted PPL’s role in fostering eco-consciousness and empowering communities to participate in coastal ecosystem protection.
The recognition underscores PPL’s vision of aligning industrial growth with ecological balance, as Odisha continues its journey toward sustainable coastal development.
