Regional Executive Director (North) inaugurates GEM at India’s largest power station NTPC Vindhyachal

NTPC Vindhyachal marked a significant milestone on Monday with the inauguration of its flagship CSR initiative, the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025. The ceremony, held at India’s largest power station, was attended by senior leadership and dignitaries who gathered to celebrate the launch of this impactful program.xecutive Director (North)

The event was formally inaugurated by N.S. Rao, Regional Executive Director (North) of NTPC, alongside Vijaya Rao, President of Uttara Club. The occasion also witnessed the presence of key officials including E. Satya Phani Kumar, Executive Director of Vindhyachal; Rajeev Akotkar, Executive Director of Singrauli; and Anil Shrivastava, Executive Director of Rihand, among others.

In his keynote address, N.S. Rao lauded the enthusiasm of the participants and expressed his gratitude to the parents for entrusting NTPC with their children’s development. He announced that over 800 girls would be participating in GEM workshops across various NTPC projects in the Northern Region this year. Emphasizing the transformative power of the initiative, he cited the success story of Kajal Vishwakarma, a former GEM participant who excelled in her Class 12 examinations after studying at the NTPC Vindhyachal township school.

Satya Phani Kumar, Executive Director of Vindhyachal, underscored the significance of GEM within NTPC’s broader CSR framework. He described the initiative as a “GEM of a CSR activity,” noting that more than 600 girls had successfully completed the workshop in past years. He emphasized that empowering girls creates a ripple effect that leads to the overall empowerment of society.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Rakesh Arora, who extended greetings to all dignitaries, participants, and guests. He reflected with pride on the origins of the GEM program at NTPC Vindhyachal in 2018 and encouraged the participating girls to seize this opportunity to pursue their dreams and “fly high.”

Mrinalini, Assistant General Manager (HR), concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of everyone involved in organizing the program. The ceremony also featured spirited cultural performances by school children, which added a festive atmosphere and were warmly received by the audience.

The Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) is NTPC’s flagship CSR initiative dedicated to uplifting school-going girls from underprivileged communities residing near NTPC project sites. The program aims to nurture these young minds into confident individuals who can act as agents of positive change within their families, communities, and the nation.
