T Venu Gopal takes charge as Deputy Chairman of Paradip Port Authority

Venu Gopal, an accomplished port administrator with three decades of service, assumed charge today as the Deputy Chairman of Paradip Port Authority (PPA). A seasoned professional known for his operational expertise and leadership across major Indian ports, Venu Gopal brings with him a distinguished track record of service at the Visakhapatnam and Deendayal (Kandla) Port Authorities.

Beginning his career at Visakhapatnam Port in 1995 as Assistant Personnel Officer, Venu Gopal steadily rose through the ranks, serving in multiple strategic roles across key departments. His administrative acumen led to his appointment as Secretary of Deendayal Port Authority in 2019, after a four-year stint as In-Charge Secretary at the Visakhapatnam Port Authority between 2014 and 2018. In 2020, he returned to VPA as Secretary, where he additionally took on the responsibilities of Traffic Manager and Chief Medical Officer, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and service delivery.

During his tenure at VPA, he steered several high-impact initiatives, including major international and national maritime events such as BIMSTEC meetings, Indian Maritime Conclaves, and the inauguration of the International Cruise Terminal. His leadership in handling international cruise vessels further strengthened India’s cruise tourism prospects. He also ensured smooth implementation of flagship Government of India programmes like Swachh Bharat, IGoT, Skill Development, healthcare and education initiatives across the port ecosystem.

Under his guidance, VPA achieved top rankings in Swachhata and Safety initiatives, reflecting his commitment to creating a cleaner, safer and more productive work environment. He has also served on several key committees constituted by the Indian Ports Association and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, contributing to policy and operational reforms in the maritime sector.
