With heavy rains continuing to lash Odisha and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing yellow warnings for multiple districts, Tata Power-led Odisha discoms have scaled up their monsoon preparedness measures to ensure safe and uninterrupted electricity supply across the state. The four distribution companies — TPCODL, TPNODL, TPWODL, and TPSODL—are executing an intensified response plan, focusing on 24×7 restoration efforts and infrastructure resilience for their 97 lakh consumers.

In severely impacted districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur, field teams under TPNODL have been working round-the-clock to restore power in flood-hit areas, with priority on rapid fault detection, repair, and public safety. Likewise, TPWODL personnel are operating across Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Rourkela to manage disruptions and support relief operations. All discoms have activated emergency protocols to handle the evolving weather situation effectively.

Learning from previous extreme weather events like Cyclone Dana and recurring kalbaishakis, the discoms have fortified their infrastructure, deployed a 15,000-member workforce, and implemented advanced remote monitoring tools. The Power Distribution Technology Centre in Bhubaneswar plays a central role in real-time grid surveillance, enabling faster coordination and response across urban and rural zones.

Consumers have also been urged to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines during the monsoon. The discoms recommend unplugging non-essential appliances during storms, regularly inspecting safety devices like ELCB/RCCB, and ensuring children avoid wet electrical points. Citizens are warned against walking through waterlogged areas or touching fallen wires, and are encouraged to report such hazards immediately via helplines 1912 or 1800-345-7122.

To bolster statewide coordination, Tata Power-led discoms are working closely with the Government of Odisha and State Disaster Management Authorities. The integrated effort aims to maintain electricity continuity, support local administrations, and safeguard public well-being as rainfall continues across districts including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, and Bargarh, among others.

The four discoms — TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), and TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) — are joint ventures between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha. Collectively, they serve nearly 5 crore people, driving Odisha’s power distribution with a consumer-centric and technologically advanced approach.
