TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, and the power distribution utility serving Central Odisha, strengthened its clean energy outreach on Tuesday by conducting an extensive awareness programme for its Business Associates on the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model. The initiative, designed to deepen grassroots engagement, aims to accelerate rooftop solar adoption across the region by equipping key field partners with detailed operational knowledge.
Addressing the session, TPCODL CEO Arvind Singh explained the core components of the scheme, elaborating on consumer registration, installation procedures, and the subsidy framework offered jointly by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy and the Government of Odisha. He encouraged Business Associates to champion the programme both as facilitators and potential consumers of rooftop solar systems. Senior officials of TPCODL also interacted with the participants, clarifying their queries and offering guidance for stronger community mobilisation.
During the meet, Business Associates were urged to take the benefits of the scheme to every gram panchayat within TPCODL’s operational jurisdiction. As per the guidelines, Gram Panchayats are eligible to receive an incentive of ₹1,000 for every rooftop solar system commissioned within their area. The session highlighted how the ULA model simplifies the entire process, ensuring that households gain easy access to clean, affordable and reliable solar power while reducing dependency on conventional electricity.
The programme included a detailed presentation on both economic and environmental advantages of rooftop solar. Business Associates were briefed on cost savings, long-term durability of the systems, low maintenance requirements, and the substantial government subsidy that significantly reduces consumer contribution—ensuring the scheme’s appeal for households across income segments.
Commenting on the initiative, CEO Arvind Singh said, “The PM Surya Ghar ULA Scheme is a transformative step toward making solar energy accessible to every household. By empowering our BAs with the right knowledge, we aim to accelerate solar adoption at the grassroot level and support Odisha’s clean energy vision. TPCODL remains committed to driving sustainable customer-centric solutions across its operational areas.”
The session also reiterated key features of the scheme, including significant reductions in electricity bills, combined central and state subsidy support, free net meters for smaller systems, 25-year panel life with high wind resistance, and the requirement of a minimum 1 kW load and 100 sq. ft. of unshaded RCC roof space for eligibility.
Reaffirming its commitment to clean energy transition, TPCODL emphasised that it will continue intensifying awareness campaigns to ensure that households across Central Odisha fully benefit from the transformative PM Surya Ghar rooftop solar initiative.
