Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, marked World Heart Day 2025 with a series of impactful initiatives across its operations in Jharsuguda and Lanjigarh, in alignment with the global theme “Don’t Miss a Beat.” The programmes focused on spreading awareness about cardiovascular diseases (CVD) — one of the leading causes of premature mortality worldwide — and promoting preventive care through health screenings, counselling, and emergency response preparedness.
At Lanjigarh, where the company operates its alumina refinery, the Occupational Health Centre conducted a comprehensive awareness session on cardiovascular disorders. The session covered early symptoms of heart attacks, risk factors, and prevention strategies. A key highlight was the launch of the Loading Dose Kit — an emergency first-aid response kit designed for suspected heart attacks. Over 100 kits were distributed during the event, with an additional 900 slated for rollout in the coming months. This initiative will be accompanied by extended awareness campaigns to further strengthen preparedness across the workforce. Employees and members of the senior leadership team participated enthusiastically in the programme.
At Jharsuguda, home to Vedanta Aluminium’s mega smelter, a series of awareness drives and health check-ups were organised across five villages — Banjari, Chithuapada, Dalki, Shivrampur, and Sunarimunda. Led by medical experts, these sessions included interactive discussions on CVD prevention, the importance of periodic health check-ups, and lifestyle modifications to maintain heart health. The outreach also featured on-site screenings and the distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials, benefiting more than 300 villagers.
Commenting on the initiative, Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, we see a thriving workforce and healthy neighbourhoods as the foundation of sustainable growth. Through year-round healthcare initiatives — from preventive screenings and awareness drives to life-saving emergency preparedness — we aim to create lasting impact on the ground. Our World Heart Day observance is one such example of how we combine care with action, ensuring that both our workforce and the communities around us are informed, protected, and empowered to lead healthier lives.”
Vedanta Aluminium’s World Heart Day observance complements its broader healthcare ecosystem, which provides accessible and quality medical services to some of India’s most underserved regions. The company operates hospitals in Kalahandi, advanced diagnostic centres at Jharsuguda and Laikera, and a 170-bed cancer hospital, BALCO Medical Centre, at Naya Raipur. A fleet of Mobile Health Units delivers consultations, diagnostics, and essential medicines directly to community doorsteps. In addition, Vedanta Aluminium regularly organises mega health camps, cataract surgeries, and awareness drives on maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, cancer, and other chronic diseases.
Together, these initiatives underscore Vedanta Aluminium’s unwavering commitment to building a healthier, more resilient workforce and community ecosystem.
