Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to safe and responsible mining, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, successfully concluded its Annual Mines Safety Fortnight (AMSF) at the Jamkhani Coal Mine in Odisha. Held from 2nd to 15th December 2025 in collaboration with the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), the two-week initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 600 employees, business partners and workmen, reinforcing the company’s safety-first culture.
Centred around the powerful theme “Aapka Pariwar Aapka Intezar Kar Raha Hai”, the programme underscored the importance of safe work practices by reminding every individual that safety at the workplace directly impacts families and loved ones waiting at home. The theme resonated strongly across the workforce, driving greater awareness, accountability and behavioural change on the ground.
A wide range of structured and engaging activities were conducted throughout the fortnight, including comprehensive safety inspections, safety quizzes, first-aid demonstrations, mock emergency drills, awareness sessions, street plays and interactive safety talks. These initiatives encouraged open dialogue, knowledge sharing and active participation, making safety an integral part of daily operations rather than a periodic exercise.
One of the key highlights of the programme was an extensive safety inspection carried out by an external AMSF team comprising 10 subject matter experts. The team included an Internal Safety Organisation (ISO) observer and senior officials from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited. The inspection further validated Vedanta Aluminium’s robust safety systems and its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards across its mining operations.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Safety is a core value at Vedanta Aluminium. Our Zero Harm philosophy is about instilling behavioural change, empowering people to make safety a personal responsibility. Initiatives like the Annual Mines Safety Fortnight play a pivotal role in reinforcing this culture, creating platforms for learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement. By engaging employees, partners, and communities, we are building a workplace where safety is second nature.”
Tapas Kumar Mohanty, Chief Manager – Safety and ISO Observer, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, added, “I congratulate Vedanta Aluminium for organising a highly impactful Mines Safety Fortnight. The mine’s strong emphasis on workforce engagement, practical drills, structured awareness programmes and strict adherence to safety protocols sets an excellent benchmark for the mining industry.”
Beyond operational excellence, Vedanta Aluminium continues to transform lives in its operational regions through initiatives in education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, rural infrastructure and grassroots sports and culture. By working closely with local authorities and community stakeholders, the company ensures safety and sustainability remain integral to its growth journey.
A business of Vedanta Limited, Vedanta Aluminium produced 2.42 million tonnes of aluminium in FY25 and ranks 2nd globally in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 for the aluminium sector, reflecting its leadership in sustainable and responsible industrial practices.
