In a heartening display of corporate responsibility, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, launched its Winter Preparedness Drive in the Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts of Odisha. The initiative, aimed at supporting vulnerable communities, distributed warm winter blankets to over 3,000 people in need across several villages, including Jamkhani, Ghogharpalli, and Kuraloi.
The drive, which focused on elderly individuals, pregnant and lactating women, members of self-help groups (SHGs), women-led households, and persons with disabilities, seeks to provide vital warmth and comfort to those who may struggle to cope with the harsh winter conditions. Vedanta Aluminium has expressed its commitment to expanding the programme to reach even more communities as winter progresses.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key local leaders, including Sanatan Nayak, Sarpanch of Kuraloi Gram Panchayat; Rangadhar Dilla, Sarpanch of Piplimal Gram Panchayat; and Madhav Barik, Panchayat Samiti Member of Ghogharpalli. Their presence highlighted the strong partnership between Vedanta and local authorities in addressing the pressing needs of these communities.
Speaking in the initiative, Vedanta Aluminium CEO Rajiv Kumar said, “At Vedanta, our communities are at the heart of everything we do. This winter preparedness drive is one of many social interventions aimed at improving the quality of life for those who need it most. We are driven by the needs of the people we serve, and we are proud to contribute to their well-being during this challenging season.”
Local leaders also expressed their gratitude for the company’s timely intervention. Sanatan Nayak, Sarpanch of Kuraloi, remarked, “Winter is often a tough time for those who do not have adequate resources. Vedanta’s support during these months is deeply appreciated, and we are thankful for their ongoing commitment to our community.”
Echoing his sentiment, Madhav Barik, Panchayat Samiti Member of Ghogharpalli, said, “This drive is a critical step in making the winter months more bearable for our people. Vedanta’s timely initiative is making a real difference, and we commend them for stepping up in this way.”
Vedanta Aluminium’s efforts are not limited to this winter initiative. The company continues to make a positive impact in Odisha through a range of social programmes aimed at education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, rural infrastructure, and grassroots sports and culture. By working closely with local stakeholders and authorities, Vedanta ensures that its interventions lead to lasting socio-economic improvements in its operational areas.
As the largest producer of aluminium in India, Vedanta Aluminium not only leads in production but also stands as a model for sustainability. The company manufactures more than half of India’s total aluminium output—2.42 million tonnes in FY25 — and has earned global recognition for its sustainable practices. In 2024, Vedanta Aluminium ranked 2nd in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment for the aluminium industry, underscoring its leadership in sustainable development.
