Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has been delivering quality healthcare services to over 35,000 residents across 52 remote villages in Odisha through its flagship Mobile Health Unit (MHU) initiative. Operating in the districts of Rayagada, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda, the company has conducted more than 2,000 free health camps over the past two years, addressing critical healthcare needs in underserved regions.
Aimed at bridging healthcare gaps in rural Odisha, the MHU camps provide a wide range of free medical services, including general health check-ups, malaria screenings, blood sugar tests, and distribution of essential medicines. Each MHU is fully equipped with diagnostic kits and basic medicines, and is staffed by a qualified doctor, nurse, lab technician, and pharmacist. Beyond immediate medical care, the initiative also emphasizes preventive healthcare through regular awareness sessions, significantly contributing to the well-being of the community.
In Thuamul Rampur block of Kalahandi district, the initiative covers 21 villages. In Kashipur block of Rayagada district, services are extended to 14 villages. In Sundargarh’s Hemgir block, 11 villages benefit from the outreach, while 6 villages are covered in the Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda district. The camps commonly treat conditions such as hypertension, gastric issues, fungal infections, anaemia, common cold, joint pain, respiratory infections, diabetes, and skin ailments like scabies.
Preventive health awareness is a key component of the initiative, covering vital topics such as menstrual hygiene, breastfeeding practices, tobacco cessation, deworming, chronic disease management, and seasonal illness prevention.
