In a landmark development set to reshape Odisha’s industrial landscape, Vedanta Group Chairman, Anil Agarwal, on Thursday met with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the Lok Seva Bhawan here to discuss a series of ambitious new projects. During the meeting, Vedanta unveiled plans to invest a groundbreaking ₹1 lakh crore in the state, a move that promises to generate over 1 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities.
This massive investment marks a transformative step for Odisha, positioning the state as a hub for cutting-edge industrial growth. The State Government has pledged its full support to these ventures, ensuring the timely provision of land and infrastructure to help turn this vision into reality.
One of the flagship projects discussed is Vedanta’s ultra-modern ₹2,000 crore Ferro-Alloys Plant, which will be built in Keonjhar. This project is set to elevate Odisha’s profile in the global metal value chain, boosting its role as a leader in the steel and alloy sectors. The plant will not only drive economic growth but will also create a significant number of high-skilled jobs, particularly in the manufacturing and technical fields.
Further expanding its footprint in Odisha, Vedanta will also set up two state-of-the-art Aluminium Parks in the state. One will be located near Vedanta’s existing Aluminium Plant in Jharsuguda, and another will be developed at a site identified by the state government. These parks will focus on the production of high-grade aluminium alloys, catering to high-growth sectors such as aerospace, electric vehicles, and defense. The initiative is expected to trigger large-scale investments and foster growth in the state’s MSME sector, a crucial area for sustainable economic development.
Chief Minister Majhi expressed his enthusiasm for Vedanta’s investment, calling it a “game-changer” for Odisha’s future. “These projects align perfectly with our vision for Odisha as a global leader in industry and technology,” he said. “Not only will they drive economic growth, but they will also provide vast opportunities for our youth, empowering them to become part of the new industrial ecosystem that is emerging in the state,” he added.
Majhi further highlighted that such projects are essential to achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India). He believes that with sustained investments like Vedanta’s, Odisha is on track to become a $500 billion economy by 2036, fostering inclusive growth and ensuring prosperity for all.
Expressing his gratitude to the Chief Minister and the State Government for their continued support in facilitating these transformative projects, Vedanta Chairman, Anil Agarwal, said: “Odisha is on the cusp of becoming one of India’s most dynamic industrial hubs,” he said. “We are committed to bringing long-term growth, creating jobs, and contributing to the state’s bright future.”
The meeting was attended by key officials including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja; Additional Chief Secretary, Industries Department Hemant Sharma; Additional Chief Secretary, Mining & Steel Department, Surendra Kumar; Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Saswat Mishra, and other senior members of the Odisha Government.
The collaboration between the State Government and Vedanta marks a new chapter in Odisha’s industrial evolution, with a focus on cutting-edge technologies, job creation, and economic empowerment.
