India’s timeless epic ‘Mahabharat’ is set for a grand return to national television — reimagined through the lens of artificial intelligence. Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcaster, has joined hands with Collective Media Network to recreate the legendary saga for today’s audiences, blending technology with tradition in an unprecedented way.

The ‘AI Mahabharat’ will premiere digitally on WAVES OTT on October 25, 2025, and will be telecast on Doordarshan every Sunday at 11:00 AM starting November 2, 2025. The digital-first rollout ensures that audiences across India and abroad can experience the series simultaneously, reaffirming the universality of the epic’s themes and values.

This path-breaking collaboration combines Prasar Bharati’s vast legacy and nationwide reach with Collective Media Network’s creative innovation. Employing advanced AI tools, the new adaptation brings the Mahabharat universe — from its mighty warriors and divine realms to its emotional and moral conflicts — to life with cinematic realism. The series exemplifies the spirit of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’, demonstrating how heritage and high technology can coexist to inspire future storytelling.

“Prasar Bharati has always brought stories of national and cultural significance into every Indian home,” said Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO of Prasar Bharati. “The re-telecast of the original Mahabharat during the lockdown reminded us how powerfully these stories connect generations. This AI-led reimagining allows audiences to experience the epic anew — a perfect blend of ‘Vikas’ and ‘Virasat’ in modern broadcasting.”

Vijay Subramaniam, Founder & Group CEO of Collective Artists Network, shared, “Like millions of Indians, I grew up watching Mahabharat every Sunday. With this reimagined version, we want today’s generation to feel that same wonder — but through the immersive potential of today’s technology. It’s about ‘bhakti’ and ‘pragati’ walking hand in hand.”

The ‘AI Mahabharat’ will stream on WAVES, Prasar Bharati’s fast-growing OTT platform that unites India’s cultural heritage, news, and entertainment under one digital roof. Known for its credible, family-friendly, and multilingual offerings, WAVES embodies inclusivity and innovation — making it the ideal home for this pioneering fusion of mythology and modernity.
