Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday declared that Odisha is witnessing rapid transformation under the double-engine government, fulfilling the people’s resolve for a ‘Viksit Odisha’ taken during the Assembly elections 18 months ago.
Addressing a massive gathering at the Amalipali Ground in Jharsuguda, Modi said the state is now firmly on the path of development. “About one-and-a-half years ago, the people of Odisha took a pledge for a developed state. Today, that resolution is gaining momentum with the double-engine government. Projects worth thousands of crores have been launched once again for the state and the nation,” he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted Odisha’s growing role in national progress, announcing two semiconductor units and a semiconductor park for the state. He envisioned a future where chips used in electronic devices and automobiles would be made in Odisha, tapping into the energy of its youth.
On the digital front, Modi launched BSNL’s indigenous 4G network from Jharsuguda, comprising one lakh towers. He said the initiative will benefit over two crore people, connecting around 30,000 villages that previously lacked high-speed internet.
Reaching out to farmers and tribals, the PM recalled how GST had reduced tractor tax by ₹40,000 compared to earlier regimes, and noted that kendu leaf collectors now receive better prices after a steep GST cut. “Our government is committed to empowering the poor, Dalits, backward classes and tribal communities,” he asserted.
Modi further underlined Odisha’s infrastructure gains with six Vande Bharat trains, modernisation of nearly 60 railway stations, and improved air connectivity through Jharsuguda’s VSS Airport. He also pointed to substantially higher revenues from minerals and mining flowing into the state.
Expressing confidence in Odisha’s potential, the Prime Minister said the coming decade would herald prosperity for its people. “Nature has blessed Odisha abundantly, and with the strength of its youth, the state will script a key role in building a developed India,” he concluded.
