Abhay Kumar Behuria assumes charge as NALCO Director (Finance)

Abhay Kumar Behuria on Wednesday assumed charge as Director (Finance) of state-run National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO).

With an illustrious career spanning over three decades, Behuria brings with him vast expertise in financial management, strategic planning, and digital transformation. He holds a first-class Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from Utkal University and is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI). He also holds an Executive Diploma in Business Valuation from the Board of Advanced Studies & Research, ICMAI, further underscoring his financial acumen.

Prior to joining NALCO, Behuria served as Executive Director (Finance & Accounts) at SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). At RSP, he played a pivotal role in driving operational efficiency and financial performance. Under his leadership, the plant achieved record EBITDA and Profit Before Tax (PBT), even amidst challenging market conditions.

Behuria’s strategic vision led to the closure of non-viable units, optimal resource utilization, and a strong focus on cost awareness — resulting in significant savings and enhanced profitability. He also led several key digital transformation initiatives, including the implementation of SAP in mining operations, automation of invoicing systems, and improved vendor information management.

He was was instrumental in the successful merger of two Provident Fund Trusts, enhancing compliance and operational efficiency. His proactive efforts also led to the resolution of long-pending legal and financial matters, resulting in substantial recoveries and settlements.
