Indian Railways to operate record-breaking 9111 trips during summer season

NEW DELHI, APRIL 19, 2024 (TBB BUREAU): In anticipation of heightened travel demand during the summer months, Indian Railways is gearing up to operate a record-breaking 9111 trips, showcasing its commitment to meeting passenger needs effectively.

This substantial increase from the 6369 trips offered during the summer of 2023 demonstrates Indian Railways’ dedication to ensuring passenger convenience and seamless travel experiences.

The additional trains have been strategically planned to connect key destinations across the country, facilitating smooth travel on major railway routes. All zonal railways spanning India have mobilized to operate these extra trips, catering to the summer travel rush from states including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi.

The planning and execution of additional trains is an ongoing process, with inputs gathered from various communication channels such as media reports, social media platforms, the Railway Integrated helpline number 139, and details of waitlisted passengers in the Passenger Reservation System (PRS). Based on demand assessments, the number of trains and trips is adjusted accordingly throughout the season.

During the summer season, Zonal Railways have been directed to ensure the availability of drinking water at railway stations, while elaborate crowd control arrangements are in place at major stations. Senior officers are stationed at these stations to monitor activities and regulate crowds systematically.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are stationed at originating stations to maintain queue systems for entry into General Class coaches, with skilled staff deployed in CCTV control rooms to monitor crowded areas and provide real-time assistance to passengers. Government Railway Police (GRP) and RPF staff are also deployed at foot-over bridges to regulate crowds smoothly and prevent stampede-like situations during peak rush periods.

Indian Railways remains committed to providing a convenient and comfortable travel experience for all passengers. Tickets for these additional trains can be booked through railway ticket counters or the IRCTC website/app.
