Debi Prasanna Pattanayak to receive inaugural World Odia Language Award

Renowned author and linguist, Debi Prasanna Pattanayak, will be honored with the inaugural World Odia Language Award during the upcoming World Odia Language Conference commencing on February 3. This distinguished accolade is a testament to his lifelong dedication and profound contributions to Odia language research, which have significantly enriched the linguistic tapestry.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will confer the award upon Debi Prasanna Pattanayak, presenting him with a citation alongside a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh.

The selection committee, headed by President G. Uma Maheshwar Rao of the Linguistic Society of India and comprising members including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sabita Pradhan of Odia University, Vice-Chancellor PK Swain of Utkal University of Culture, and Prof. Basant Kumar Panda, Project Director of the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Odia under the Government of India, unanimously endorsed Pattanayak for this prestigious recognition.

Pattanayak’s extraordinary endeavors in elevating the Odia language to classical status have left an indelible imprint on the linguistic landscape.

Acknowledged nationwide for his eminence as a distinguished scholar and linguist, Debi Prasanna Pattanayak has played a pivotal role as the Founder-Director of the Central Institute of Indian Languages. His illustrious contributions have been duly honored with the Padma Shri, underscoring his unwavering commitment to the development and enrichment of Indian languages.
