In a significant achievement for
Odisha’s power sector, Odisha Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (OPGC) has
secured the top position among all state-owned power generation companies in
India, reaffirming its status as one of the country’s most efficient and
reliable power producers.
According to the latest Plant Load
Factor (PLF) rankings up to May 2026, OPGC ranked first in the state sector,
tenth across all power generation sectors nationwide, and sixth among large
power stations with an installed capacity exceeding 1,000 MW. The
accomplishment reflects the corporation’s consistent operational excellence and
strong performance in thermal power generation.
The achievement marks a major
milestone for OPGC and underscores Odisha’s growing prominence in the national
energy landscape. A high PLF is widely regarded as a key indicator of a power plant’s
efficiency and capacity utilization, highlighting the corporation’s ability to
maximize output while maintaining operational stability.
Officials attributed the success to
the visionary leadership and guidance of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of
Energy Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, whose focus on strengthening Odisha’s energy
infrastructure and advancing self-reliance in the power sector has helped drive
the corporation’s progress.
OPGC’s impressive performance has been
powered by robust maintenance practices, efficient plant management, and the
unwavering commitment of its operational teams. The corporation continues to
play a critical role in meeting the state’s rising electricity demand while
maintaining industry-leading standards in reliability, productivity, and
operational efficiency.
The latest rankings further reinforce
OPGC’s position as a key pillar of Odisha’s energy security and a model for
excellence in India’s power generation sector.
