Industry needs a ‘metalmorphosis’: Hindalco MD

Terming the theme of the 77th Annual Technical Meeting of The Indian Institute of Metals and National Metallurgist Awards (IIM-ATM 2023 & NMA) ‘Sustainable Transformations in Metal Industries’ is a clarion call to the community to enable the metal industry to operate in an environmentally responsible manner, Hindalco Industries Ltd. Managing Director  and IIM President Satish Pai said that what the industry needs is a ‘metalmorphosis’.

“At Hindalco ‘metalmorphosis’ captures our journey from a legacy metals manufacturer to a global sustainability leader. I believe the IIM-ATM 2023 epitomises the spirit of ‘metalmorphosis’ by providing a unique platform for experts, researchers, and industry leaders to collaborate and shape an exceptional future for the metals sector,” said Pai while speaking at the plenary session of the IIM-ATM 2023 & NMA, which was inaugurated by Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena.

The three-day event is being organized by the Angul, Sambalpur and Bhubaneswar Chapters of IIM, in association with Hindalco Industries Ltd. and KIIT University, Bhubaneswar.

The event has an impressive lineup of 60 prominent national and international Speakers in multiple sessions, and nearly 700 technical paper presentations during 10 parallel technical sessions.

Over 1,300 participants encompassing senior officials from the Government, PSUs, metal industries, prominent corporate houses and research institutions across the globe are attending the three-day event.

Inaugurating the mega event, Odisha Chief Secretary Jena said that the Mining and Metal sector possesses massive growth opportunities and potential to contribute to the State’s economy and nation-building agenda of the government. Jena focussed on sustainable practices and technology in mineral exploration to lessen its influence on the environment while stating that value addition to the development initiatives through brainstorming and exchange of ideas by important stakeholders of the metal industry would help in a big way at the IIM-ATM.

Principal Secretary of State Industries Department Hemant Sharma highlighted how infrastructure has improved in Odisha due to growth in the metal and industrial sectors.

Among others, the IIM-ATM 2023 Organizing Committee Chairman and Essar Minmet MD & CEO SS Mohanty, Convenor and Hindalco Industries Ltd. Advisor Bibhu Mishra, IIM Vice President and JSW group Chairman Sajjan Jindal, SAIL Chairman Amarendu Prakash, IIM Vice Presidents BS Murty and Dr. Komal Kapoor were present in the inaugural session.
