In a remarkable achievement, OP Jindal Global University (JGU), in collaboration with the Flag Foundation of India (FFI), has secured a new Guinness World Record by creating the largest human waving national flag, surpassing all previous records.

The historic event held on  Tuesday, saw the enthusiastic participation of 7,368 students and staff of JGU, with certification from officials of the Guinness World Records organization. Participants, including students, staff, faculty, and officials, gathered with patriotic fervor, adorned in the colors of the Indian flag to mark this significant occasion.

Rishi Nath, Adjudicator for the Guinness World Records, who officiated the event, expressed his delight, announcing, “I am pleased to announce that OP Jindal Global University, in collaboration with the Flag Foundation of India, has successfully set the record for creating the largest human waving flag with 7368 enthusiastic participants. JGU and FFI now hold the record for this activity, and I endorse their effort that this new record will be included in the Official Guinness Book of World Records.”

This landmark event, organized by JGU in partnership with the Flag Foundation of India, underscores a shared commitment to promoting the spirit of nationalism and environmental consciousness. The Tiranga, India’s national flag, embodies the nation’s democratic, secular, and liberal values, emphasizing the importance of unity in diversity.

Naveen Jindal, Founding Chancellor of OP Jindal Global University and driving force behind the Flag Foundation, highlighted the significance of displaying the national flag as a fundamental right granted by the Indian Constitution. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Flag Foundation of India and OP Jindal Global University for their remarkable achievement in setting a new Guinness World Record for creating the largest human image of a waving national flag. On January 23, 2004, the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India recognized the flying of the National Flag as a Fundamental Right of every Indian citizen within the Constitution of India, granting freedom of speech and expression. It is imperative to proudly display our National Flag not only at significant public buildings but also at our homes, symbolizing our national pride and unity. By hoisting the flag, we transcend narrow considerations of religion, caste, language, and region, reaffirming our shared identity as Indians. Moreover, the flag represents the diversity of Indian religion, language, culture, and region, serving as the ultimate symbol of our ‘unity in diversity’.”

Addressing the gathering, Prof. C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor of OP Jindal Global University, reflected on the institution’s 15-year journey of excellence and innovation in higher education. Establishing the Guinness World Record underscores JGU’s commitment to building a robust India through education and instilling pride in Indian identity.

Prof. Dabiru Sridhar Patnaik, Registrar of OP Jindal Global University, emphasized the event’s significance in strengthening pride in Indian identity and upholding the values represented by the Tricolour.

Maj. General (Retd) Ashim Kohli, Secretary General of the Flag Foundation of India, highlighted the project’s aim to regenerate national pride and remove hesitations in embracing true nationalism.

The Flag Foundation of India, founded by Naveen Jindal after a landmark legal battle, has installed over 80 monumental flags across India, symbolizing the spirit of nationalism and unity.
