Aditya Birla Group’s Hindalco launches ‘GYANARJAN Project’ to empower students in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, April 29, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Hindalco, a part of the Aditya Birla Group, has initiated the “GYANARJAN Project” in Odisha, operated by Hirakud, to empower students in challenging subjects like science, math, and English. The goal is to prepare them for entrance exams to esteemed professional institutions, enabling access to quality education.

In collaboration with ALOK of Burla, the project has established education centers at Sai World School, Hirakud, and Government Nodal High School, Mahammadpur. Notably, many students from marginalized backgrounds aspire to join prestigious institutions like Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalayas. GYANARJAN equips them with the necessary knowledge and skills for the entrance exams to such schools, initially focusing on Class-X students and now extending to Class-V, igniting ambition from an early age.

The curriculum covers subjects such as Science, Social Science, Mathematics, English, and Odia. Specialized remedial classes are provided for Class-X students in Science, Mathematics, and English. Rigorous evaluation and parental involvement ensure students receive adequate support and guidance.

Kailash Pandey, Hindalco Business Head, Mining, and Cluster Head–Sambalpur, emphasizes the project’s commitment to educational empowerment and community progress, aiming to inspire students to aim high and pursue their passions.

“The GYANARJAN Project stands as a testament to Hindalco’s dedication to educational empowerment and community progress. Through equipping students with essential knowledge, skills, and support, we strive to encourage students to dream big and pursue their passion,” avers Pandey.

“Beyond academics, the project emphasizes extracurricular activities like essay writing, debates, songs, dances, and quizzes to foster creativity and critical thinking. Exposure visits to places like Sambalpur University, Sambalpur Zoo and Hirakud Dam provide unique experiences, while yoga sessions promote physical and mental well-being,” he adds.

Karisma Bag, a parent from Hirakud, expressed gratitude for the free coaching provided by Hindalco under the “GYANARJAN Project”.  This has significantly improved her daughter’s academic performance.

Muralidhar Behera, Additional District Education Officer, Sambalpur, lauded Hindalco for its efforts in providing comprehensive training to students, thereby fostering their academic success.

Ram Naresh Mahaling, Chemistry Professor at Sambalpur University, commended Hindalco’s endeavour to and provide free remedial classes, fostering inclusivity and bridging educational divides.

The Aditya Birla Group, through its CSR initiatives conducted under the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development, led by Mrs. Rajashree Birla, aims to impact over 2 lakh lives in 128 villages in Odisha. The Group’s CSR vision is aligned with UNSDG goals to eliminate poverty, ensure food security, and promote sustainable development, contributing to the country’s human development index.
