The significance of Physiology in managing lifestyle disorders and tackling global health challenges has been underscored at the AIIMS-PHYSIOMEET Workshop hosted by the Department of Physiology at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Experts convened to discuss emerging issues in Physiology education and research, highlighting the necessity for collaborative efforts to address local and global health issues.

The two-day workshop, a pioneering initiative fostering collaboration and advancing research in Physiology education across the nation, saw enthusiastic participation from representatives of 17 AIIMS institutions from various regions of India.

Distinguished physiologists, including Dr. Ramji Singh from AIIMS Kalyani, Dr. Ashutosh Biswas from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Dr. GK Pal from AIIMS Patna, Dr. Madhabananda Kar from AIIMS Jodhpur, Dr. PR Mohapatra (DEAN), Dr. DK Parida (Medical Superintendent), and Dr. Pranati Nanda (HOD, Department of Physiology, AIIMS Bhubaneswar), graced the inauguration ceremony alongside over 40 distinguished physiologists from different AIIMS.

The workshop’s agenda featured a panel discussion on emerging issues in physiology education and research, presided over by Dr. Ashutosh Biswas. Dr. Biswas highlighted the pivotal role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing Physiology Education & Research, citing ongoing research programs initiated under his leadership.

Dr. Kalpana Barhwal, Additional Professor and Organizing Secretary of the event, emphasized the workshop’s unique platform, facilitating discussions among Physiology faculty of AIIMS to promote academic synergy and form research consortiums between PMSSY institutes.

The closing ceremony, honored by Dr. Rajeev Varshney, Director of the Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), DRDO, as the Chief Guest, addressed key topics including the integration of artificial intelligence in Physiology Education & Research, grant writing insights for physiology research, and a special session on military physiology exploring potential collaborations between AIIMS and DRDO in this domain.

Discussions encompassed various aspects of military physiology, including underwater, heat, high-altitude, and hypoxic stress, advocating for the integration of physiology into regular research activities across AIIMS departments.

The workshop aimed to consolidate efforts and promote collaborative research in Physiology, anticipating that such initiatives by Institutes of National Importance like AIIMS will bolster the country’s standing in the field of Physiology and Medicine.
