All India Major Ports Athletics Meet 2023-24 kicks off

The sporting spirit soared at the Gopabandhu Stadium in Paradip as the 44th All India Major Ports Athletics Meet and 31st Children Athletics Meet commenced on Tuesday. Organized jointly by the Major Ports Sports Control Board and the Paradip Port Sports Council, the event witnessed the participation of approximately 250 athletes from 8 major ports across India, competing in 12 groups and 133 events.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Paradip Port Authority Chairman PL Haranadh, who emphasized the importance of such sporting events in fostering camaraderie and promoting fitness among employees. He lauded Paradip Port’s commitment to hosting such events, highlighting their role in ensuring the well-being and vitality of the workforce.

Amidst the energetic march past by participants, Haranadh underscored the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and encouraged active participation in sports.

The event also saw the presence of Sanjay Negi, DIG, Coastguard, as the Guest of Honour, along with DN Sondhi, Chairman of the Organising Committee; RN Mishra, Treasurer, GKS; DP Sethy, Secretary’ Rabi Dash, Co-ordinator’ and Ranjan Rashmi Beura, Jt. Secretary of Organising Committee.

The proceedings were further enlivened by the rhythmic performances of students from Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, who showcased their musical talents during the event.

With a strong focus on promoting athleticism and fostering a sense of community among major ports, the athletics meet promises an exhilarating display of talent and sportsmanship in the days to come.
