Dalmia’s Vision Care Initiative Benefits Underprivileged Communities in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR, APRIL 17, 2024 (TBB BUREAU):  In a concerted effort to address the healthcare needs of underprivileged communities, the Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Dalmia Bharat Ltd. (DBL),  in collaboration with Care Netram organized a transformative eye check-up camp at the Occupational Health Centre located at Dalmia Cement’s Cuttack plant – Kapilas Cement Works (KCW), Odisha.

The camp, held with the objective of providing accessible and affordable vision care services, proved to be a beacon of hope for 94 individuals from the peripheral villages of Suniapada, Biswali, Kanpur, Kushapada, Garudagaon, Kanamira, Amiyajhari, Byree, Mania, Sapanpur, Barunia, as well as KCW workers, employees, and their families.

During the comprehensive eye check-up, individuals with refraction defects were provided with spectacles at subsidized rates, ensuring improved vision and quality of life. Moreover, patients diagnosed with conditions such as cataracts and retina abnormalities were offered counseling and referred for further evaluation and treatment in Bhubaneswar. Remarkably, four individuals with special cases were counseled for cataract operations, which were provided free of cost at the affiliated hospital, Vision Care in Bhubaneswar.

Reflecting on the initiative, DCBL Deputy Executive Director & KCW Unit Head, Bhavesh Wala, expressed Dalmia Bharat’s steadfast commitment to fostering positive change in the communities it serves. He emphasized the organization’s dedication to sustainable development, stating that by offering essential healthcare services and advocating preventive care, they aim to leave a lasting impact on the well-being of the people of Odisha.

The Occupational Health Centre at KCW, Cuttack, equipped with a dedicated medical team and essential facilities, stands as a testament to Dalmia Bharat’s commitment to community health. Offering medical consultations, pharmacy services, and nursing care, the center has emerged as a lifeline for the community. Over the past year, it has served a staggering 17,158 OPD patients, with over 2,400 patients benefiting from nearby communities. Beyond its immediate vicinity, the center extends its services to ensure essential healthcare support reaches those in need, operating ambulance services and a mobile medical unit.

This eye check-up camp is not an isolated endeavor; it aligns with Dalmia Bharat’s broader mission of corporate social responsibility and underscores its dedication to creating a healthier and more sustainable future for all. In the past year alone, similar initiatives have been undertaken, including another eye check-up camp organized in collaboration with the Melvin Jones Lions Eye Hospital, further cementing Dalmia Bharat’s commitment to community welfare and healthcare accessibility.
