Entrepreneurial development, digital literacy key to women empowerment.



            Women in Odisha are managing their family requirements through working in Self-help groups (SHGs). Small scale businesses started at individual level are now designated as small industries. With the earnings from these small businesses women are now able to avail home, education and renewable resources loans and participate in overall growth of their families.

In the 4th workshop of Odisha State Association for Financial Inclusion Institution (OSAFII), held at a private hotel here on Wednesday, its President Dibyajyoti Pattanaik said that, more than 70 RBI certified small finance institutions, NBFCs, small finance banks, MFIs are providing financial services to more than 43 lakh women from 30 districts in Odisha.

Over 500 representatives of various institutions related to OSAFII from across the State took part in the program.

Besides the OSAFII President, State Bank of India Bhubaneswar Circle Chief General Manager Chandra Sekhar Sharma, SLBC Convenor Gautam Patra, Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) Chief General Manager Subhransu Sekhar Acharya, ESAF Small Finance Bank Chairman & Independent Director K. Paul Thomas and CYSD Founder Jagadananda addressed the gathering and urged the Odisha Government to provide required skill and technology to the women entrepreneurs of the State through various skill development institutions.

They also discussed the role of digital literacy and OSAFII associated institutions towards empowering the women community.

In the afternoon session of the event, UNDP’s Odisha State Head UNDP, Abha Mishra, DCB Bank Regional Head Satya Pradhan, Xavier University Professor Ramana and KIT University Professor Debashis Mohanty dwelt upon women empowerment and gamut of financial services.

The OSAFII Chief Executive Officer informed about the scheduled programs of the institution.
