Steel major JSW Steel and JUSL planted saplings at its mining and plant areas in Keonjhar, Sundergarh and Jagatsinghpur districts, to mark World Environment Day on Monday.

The Sajjan Jindal-led company planted around 300 saplings in Jajang, Nuagaon, Narayanposhi and Ganua. The Environment Management department along with mines managers, employees of the company and local villagers carried out the mass plantation drive.

It also created awareness and encouraged locals to minimize use of single-use plastic.

Similarly, JSW Utkal Steel in Paradip planted 5,000 casuarina saplings at its project area.

The coastal areas of Paradip are often exposed to natural disasters; hence there is a need to create extensive mangrove forests along the coast. In the coming days, the company aims to carry out extensive tree plantation programs in various places like this.

On this occasion, a sand art made by sculptor Partha Sarthi Jena was also on display delivering a message to protect the environment. All senior officials of JUSL were present during the event.
