The New Plate Mill, Blast Furnace-5, Coke Ovens Battery-6 and Power & Blowing Station of SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have received certification for ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System from TUV India Private Limited. The certification will be valid till January 1, 2026.
The audit for the said certification was held from November 29 to December 3, 2022. During the course of audit, the auditor had not only verified all the clauses and sub-clauses of ISO 50001 standards but also guided the team from RSP regarding all spheres of energy related activities be it Operation, Maintenance, Competence Development, Leadership & Commitment, Compliance to legal requirements etc.
ISO 50001:2018 is a prestigious standard and its implementation will help RSP continually reduce the energy use, energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. This Certification will reinforce RSP’s credibility in Energy Performance Areas. The other energy intensive units of RSP (Works) will also be included in the scope in phased manner.
The entire certification process including conducting the audit, closing audit observations and liasioning with Audit Agency etc. was done by the Business Excellence and Energy Management Departments of RSP.
