TPCODL introduces TMUs for enhanced customer service and power reliability in Bhubaneswar & Cuttack

Bhubaneswar, May 06, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a move aimed at bolstering customer service and ensuring power reliability, Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has unveiled state-of-the-art Transformer Monitoring Units (TMUs) at its 33/11kV primary substations in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The TMUs, recently introduced by TPCODL, offer a comprehensive suite of monitoring, control, and communication features. These units provide real-time and historical data on crucial transformer parameters such as voltage, current, gases, on-load tap changer, oil, and winding temperature, all within a compact package.

One of the key advantages of the Transformer Monitoring Units is their ability to facilitate early fault identification, thus mitigating the risk of catastrophic failure of the capital-intensive 33/11kV power transformers. By replacing traditional panel switches, temperature gauges, and latching relays, TMUs streamline operations and enhance efficiency.

Moreover, TMUs are designed to automatically adjust voltage levels without requiring manual intervention, thereby ensuring consistent power quality for all consumers. TPCODL has already installed 50 TMUs in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, with plans for further deployment.

These TMUs are seamlessly integrated with the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, enabling remote monitoring and control from the Power System Control Centre located in Kalyani Complex, Bhubaneswar.

Commenting on the significance of this technological advancement, TPCODL CEO Arvind Singh said, “The introduction of Transformer Monitoring Units marks a significant milestone in our mission to revolutionize power distribution. These TMUs embody our persistent dedication to provide impeccable service to our valued customers. We believe this innovative technology will greatly enhance the reliability and efficiency of our network, ensuring uninterrupted access to high-quality power for communities throughout Odisha.”
