In response to the early onset of summer in the region, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has introduced a drinking water facility at the Sundargarh bus stand in Odisha, ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water for over 500 people daily. This strategic installation at the bustling bus stand addresses the crucial need for clean drinking water in public spaces and reflects Vedanta Aluminium’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life while promoting clean water and sanitation practices in the district.

The inauguration of this project was officiated by Sundargarh MLA Kusum Tete.

Vedanta Aluminium’s mines team has previously undertaken potable water infrastructure projects in villages such as Jamkhani, Girisima, and Mendra, fostering healthier living conditions for local residents. Additionally, the company conducts its annual ‘Jal Sewa Shibir’ during the summer months in Odisha, where water kiosks are set up at public places to serve travelers, particularly due to the extreme weather conditions prevalent in the region at that time. Last year, Vedanta Aluminium organized a two-week-long ‘Jal Seva Shibir’ at the Rayagada bus stand in Odisha, where kiosks offered drinking water and lemonade, providing relief against the summer heatwave to over 65,000 people.

Ratan Sarangi, President of the Sundargarh Private Bus Owners’ Association, expressed gratitude for Vedanta’s initiative to provide potable water, stating, “The initiative to provide access to clean drinking water for free will greatly benefit the travelers. I thank Vedanta for their valuable contribution.”
