Vedanta Lanjigarh’s health initiatives benefit over 75,000 residents in Kalahandi Dist

Vedanta Lanjigarh, India’s leading producer of metallurgical grade alumina and a division of Vedanta Aluminium, recently organized a week-long health camp aimed at cancer screening and prevention awareness, along with disability assistance, in the remote areas of Kalahandi district in Odisha. The camp successfully engaged over 600 residents from nearby communities, part of Vedanta Lanjigarh’s ongoing health initiatives designed to address prevalent health issues and provide quality healthcare to local communities. In the financial year 2024, the company’s health initiatives collectively benefited 75,000 people.

The recently held health campaign comprised two primary components. Firstly, a cancer prevention drive was conducted in collaboration with Visakhapatnam-based Mahatma Gandhi Hospital & Research Institute, a renowned cancer hospital in the region. The drive aimed at raising awareness about cancer prevention, timely detection, and care. It included a screening camp offering early detection facilities and free consultations with specialists.

Secondly, a disability assistance camp was organized in collaboration with Jaipur Foot, an NGO specializing in providing customized prosthetic aids and appliances to people with locomotor disabilities. This camp aimed to empower individuals with special needs from neighbouring communities to lead independent lives.

Vedanta Lanjigarh’s health initiatives are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal of Good Health & Well-being (SDG3) and are focused on enhancing the quality of life in the regions where it operates.

In addition to the recent health camp, Vedanta Lanjigarh supports the local communities through various ongoing healthcare initiatives, including the Vedanta Hospital, Maa Santoshi Jankalyan Hospital, Mobile Health Unit (MHU), cataract camps, Pehli Udaan initiative, Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, and Ni-kshay Mitra program. These initiatives cater to various healthcare needs, such as primary healthcare services, maternal care, menstrual health, tuberculosis awareness, and nutrition support, benefiting thousands of people annually.
