"Employment
is not the end of learning, but rather the beginning of a new chapter,"
said Sampad Chandra Swain, Minister for Industries, Skill Development, and
Technical Education, while distributing appointment letters to more than 400
students during the 'Campus to Career' programme organised at Government Polytechnic,
Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
In
a major boost to Odisha's skill development ecosystem, over 400 students
secured placements in more than 32 reputed companies after successfully
completing training in various trades. Leading recruiters included Tata Power,
JSW, Paytm, Yazaki, and MedPlus. Of the selected candidates, 175 were male and
234 were female students. Paytm offered the highest annual package of ₹3.95 lakh.
Addressing
the gathering, the Minister said that this success of the students reflects the
true picture of skill development in the state. He emphasized that skill
development is not just about becoming employable but about establishing
oneself in a competitive market.
On
the occasion, Swain inaugurated the 'Waste to Wealth' Skill Park on the
institute campus. Developed entirely from waste materials, scrap, and discarded
machinery parts sourced from various training units and laboratories, the park
stands as a shining example of innovation, sustainability, and resourcefulness.
The Minister lauded the initiative, observing that it would play a significant
role in fostering environmental consciousness and advancing the concept of
'Green Skills.' He also toured the Government Polytechnic campus and interacted
with students and faculty members.
Further highlighting the institute's commitment to women empowerment, the Minister released Nari Vandana: Empowering Narishakti, a publication documenting the inspiring journeys of 168 female students who completed their training and secured placements under the Sudakshya scheme. While launching the booklet, he congratulated the successful girl students and encouraged others to make full use of the transformative scheme.
The event was attended by Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Skill Development and Technical Education Department; Swapna Kumar Mishra, Secretary, State Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training; Dr. Rajat Panigrahi, Principal, Government Polytechnic, Bhubaneswar; along with faculty members, industry representatives, and students.
