NTPC Swayamsiddha Ladies Club conducts stitching, self-défense classes to empower women and young girls

With an objective to empower local women with skill development, NTPC Swayamsiddha Ladies Club (SLC) of Coal Mining Headquarters, Ranchi provided support for organising a three-month Stitching classes for local women to harness their skills through in-house training on sewing and stitching to 20 beneficiaries. SLC also extended its support for organising three-month course on self-defense to 50 young girls. Both the courses were conducted by Swayamsiddha Ladies Club under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in association with Asha Home, shelter for orphan children.

On completion of the course, Swayamsiddha Ladies Club President Padma Reddy distributed training certificate to the successful candidates.

Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said, “It’s very heartening to see that after completion of the course, the participants have become competent to stitch different dresses which will help them become self-sufficient to support their families through earning livelihood.”

 Further, after the performance on self-defense techniques by participants, she said it would boost confidence and provide safety to young girls. She advised them to practice regularly to sharpen their skills.

On the occasion, Sanchita Konar, Vice President, Lakshmi Murthy, Vice President, MS Ramya, Secretary, Mansa Verma, Secretary (CSR), Parameshwari, Cultural Secretary, SLC and Amit Kumar Behera, Senior Manager (Corporate Communications), NTPC Coal Mining Headquarters, were also present.

Members of Ladies Club planted fruit bearing saplings and distributed saplings to the local people to encourage greenery through plantation.
