“Have the vision of being the Best Steel Plant,” called upon Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge (DIC), to the employees of SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), while addressing a huge gathering of senior officers and employees of the Plant on the occasion of the Annual Performance Review and Award function on 1st April 2023.
Notably the mega annual event held at the beginning of a New Financial Year, at Gopabandhu Auditorium every year celebrates the accomplishments of the Steel Plant in the previous fiscal, felicitates the individual employees and Departments for their contributions and firms up the targets for the new financial year.
Elaborating further, Bhowmick exhorted the RSP collective to adopt and adapt to change and said, “We have to be alert to the happenings in our environment and have flexible strategies with respect to volume of production, product-mix, value-added products, market behavior, pricing, packaging, marketing and customer expectations.”
Applauding the performance of RSP in the year 2022-23, the DIC said, “We added numerous new records, awards and accolades to our kitty in the last fiscal while also rapidly streamlining production from the recently commissioned state-of-the-art Hot Strip Mill-2. Besides, we made huge contributions in successfully conducting the recently held FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup and our township’s ambience and amenities have undergone a massive transformation.”
The DIC also spelt out the road ahead and elaborated on the Seven Sutras of Success in the current business ecosystem viz. Intensifying Safety & Environment endeavours, Enhancing volume and value-added production, Eliminating break downs and surprises, Effective Cost Optimisation, Ensuring clientèle delight, Emphasizing on Digitalisation and Engaging with Stakeholders.
“Each one of us has tremendous potential and we must do all that is in our command to take our Steel Plant and our township to new heights of glory. As we set foot on a new financial year and on the auspicious occasion of Utkal Divas, let us resolve that we shall individually and collectively work towards fulfilling this commitment,” he concluded.
The DIC was accompanied by PK Satapathy, ED (P&A), PK Sahoo, ED (Projects), Dr. BK Hota, ED (M&HS) and Debabrata Dutta, CGM In Charge (Services) and Acting EDb(Works).
Dutta made an elaborate presentation on the performance of the plant in 2022-23 and highlighted the commendable achievements of RSP in several areas.
DIC Bhowmick, along with other dignitaries presented 100 awards to more than 300 employees for individual as well as departmental achievements. The Steel Melting Shop-2 Department bagged the Champion of the Year Trophy for its stupendous performance while Hot Strip Mill-2 was the Runners Up.
He also released the Annual Business Plan booklet and Safety & Health Policy.
