Paradip Port achieves record cargo throughput

The Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has reached a significant milestone by surpassing last fiscal year’s cargo throughput record, achieving an impressive 135.68 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo handling since its inception, a remarkable 23 days ahead of schedule for the financial year 2023-24. This accomplishment highlights the commitment and dedication of Team PPA towards operational excellence.

The Paradip Port Authority’s remarkable achievement underscores its pivotal role in driving economic growth and facilitating trade in the region.

Under the leadership of PPA Chairman PL Haranadh, and with the guidance of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the Port has made remarkable progress in becoming the top cargo handling Major Port in the country. With an expected historic milestone of touching the 145 MMT mark, Paradip Port is poised to draft a new chapter in its 57-year history.

Coal handling, amounting to 58.78 MMT, constitutes a significant portion of the total cargo volume handled at the Port, representing about 44.42 per cent. Notably, iron ore and pellet cargo have seen a remarkable growth of 48.86 per cent, reaching 23.79 MMT.

The Port has also witnessed a surge in vessel traffic, with a record number of 2545 vessels making Port of call by March 8, compared to 2200 vessels during the corresponding period in the previous fiscal.

In terms of operational efficiency, Paradip Port has demonstrated impressive performance. Berth productivity stands at 32751 metric tonnes per day per ship, the highest among all Major Ports in the country. Additionally, the average turnaround time has improved to 41.85 hours from the previous year’s 46.77 hours.

The Port’s commitment to operational excellence and strategic improvements in cargo handling has positioned it as a key player in catering to the growing needs of the industry. With a focus on sustainable marketing strategies, PPA aims to strengthen its relationship with Port Users and achieve further accomplishments in the future.

Chairman Haranadh extended his heartfelt congratulations to Team PPA for their outstanding performance and expressed gratitude to Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for his leadership and guidance in achieving this enviable record.
