The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, has stepped up efforts to promote energy conservation and sustainable lifestyles by engaging digital content creators and social media influencers to spread awareness about responsible energy use across the country.

The BEE organised the Influencers’ Conclave – East Region (Extended) 2026 at Mayfair Lagoon here on Saturday as a precursor to the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2026, bringing together digital creators to amplify public awareness about energy efficiency through engaging and accessible online content.

Addressing the conclave, BEE Director General Krushna Chandra Panigrahy underscored the importance of public participation and digital media in encouraging responsible energy consumption and integrating energy-saving practices into everyday life.

He urged content creators to use their digital platforms to promote practical measures such as conserving electricity at home, opting for five-star-rated energy-efficient appliances and using energy judiciously.

The conclave highlighted five key themes for NECA 2026, including switching to induction cooking, setting air conditioners at 24 degrees Celsius or above, choosing energy-efficient appliances, making smart energy choices in daily life, and promoting electric vehicles and sustainable mobility.

These initiatives are aimed at encouraging consumers to adopt cleaner cooking practices, reduce electricity consumption, improve cooling efficiency and make environmentally responsible mobility choices.

Recognising the growing influence of digital platforms in shaping public behaviour, BEE introduced a dedicated category for social media influencers and content creators under NECA in 2025. The category seeks to recognise and encourage digital initiatives that effectively communicate energy conservation messages to wider audiences.

The Bhubaneswar conclave featured presentations on NECA, interactive activities, a demonstration of the award registration portal, discussions and felicitation of influencers. The programme also sought to encourage creators to disseminate energy-saving messages in regional languages through innovative and engaging digital content.

The initiative aligns with the government's Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which seeks to encourage individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices and make environmentally conscious choices in their daily lives.

The 36th National Energy Conservation Awards will be held on December 14, 2026, coinciding with National Energy Conservation Day.

Through its engagement with digital creators, BEE aims to strengthen public outreach and make energy efficiency a more integral part of household consumption, consumer choices and sustainable living practices.
