The much-anticipated initial public offering
(IPO) of Jio Platforms is generating strong investor interest even before its
formal opening, with early institutional demand reportedly touching nearly Rs
2.5 lakh crore, more than eight times the estimated issue size of Rs 30,200
crore.
Retail investors have
also begun preparing for the mega public issue, with several broking platforms
allowing them to pre-apply ahead of the subscription window scheduled from
October 21 to 23.
According to reports
in leading business media, the early institutional interest spans global
sovereign wealth funds, international long-only investors, domestic mutual
funds and insurance companies. However, the reported Rs 2.5 lakh crore
represents preliminary indications of interest and not formal IPO
subscriptions.
Among the global
institutional investors reported to have shown interest in the offering are
Singapore's GIC, Norges Bank Investment Management, Abu Dhabi Investment
Authority, Qatar Investment Authority, BlackRock, Fidelity and Capital Group.
Domestic institutions, including Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), SBI
Mutual Fund and HDFC Mutual Fund, are also said to be among the interested
investors.
The scale of the
reported demand signals strong institutional appetite for the offering ahead of
the opening of the anchor investor book on October 19. The anchor allocation is
expected to provide the first formal indication of institutional participation
and help gauge the extent to which the early interest translates into actual
investment commitments.
The Jio Platforms IPO
has a price band of Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 per share, with a minimum application
lot of 12 shares. At the upper end of the price band, retail investors would
need to invest Rs 13,428 for one lot, excluding applicable charges.
The public issue will open for subscription on October 21 and close on October 23, with investors closely watching the anchor book for further signals on demand for one of the country's most closely tracked market offerings.
Pre-application facilities available on select broking platforms allow investors to place their orders in advance. Such orders, however, will enter the formal bidding process only after the IPO opens on October 21.
