NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 19, 2026

The government will launch a nationwide financial inclusion campaign from October 21 to December 31, targeting 2.70 lakh gram panchayats and urban local bodies to expand access to banking, insurance and pension schemes, while strengthening financial security and awareness among citizens.

The campaign, to be organised by the Department of Financial Services (DFS), will see banks conduct special camps to facilitate enrolments under key social security schemes, open bank accounts, complete KYC formalities and spread awareness about digital frauds and unclaimed financial assets.

The initiative aims to ensure wider coverage of financial inclusion schemes and deliver essential financial services to people at the grassroots level, particularly those yet to be brought fully into the formal financial system.

During the campaign, banks will facilitate enrolments under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY). The camps will also support Aadhaar seeding under PMJJBY and PMSBY, besides opening accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).

Banks will undertake re-KYC of existing PMJDY and other savings accounts, generate Central KYC (C-KYC) identification numbers wherever pending, and facilitate the updating of nominations in savings accounts and other facilities, including lockers.

The campaign will also feature awareness sessions on financial inclusion schemes, digital fraud prevention and the government's 'Aapki Poonji, Aapka Adhikar' initiative, which focuses on unclaimed financial assets.

In a push to strengthen agricultural credit and insurance coverage, banks will source Kisan Credit Card (KCC) applications to help achieve saturation among eligible PM-Kisan beneficiaries. They will also facilitate enrolments under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana ahead of the upcoming Rabi season, with the objective of expanding insurance coverage among KCC account holders.

The campaign reflects the government's commitment to empowering citizens at the last mile and building a more inclusive society by ensuring access to formal banking and other financial services.

A preparatory meeting with senior management of banks and State Level Bankers' Committees (SLBCs) was held on Monday under the chairmanship of the Joint Secretary (Financial Inclusion), Department of Financial Services.

Progress under the campaign will be closely monitored by key stakeholders, including state administrations, banks and the DFS, to ensure effective implementation and wider coverage of the targeted schemes.
