In a significant step towards building future-ready talent and strengthening technical depth in the power distribution sector, Tata Power–led Odisha DISCOMs have launched a Work Integrated Learning Program (WILP) in partnership with Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University. The pioneer batch of the program formally commenced its academic journey on January 31, 2026, marking a new chapter in employee capability development.

Designed specifically for employees holding a Diploma in Electrical Engineering, the WILP enables participants to pursue a B. The initiative underscores Tata Power–led Odisha DISCOMs’ sustained focus on continuous learning, employee growth and operational excellence across its distribution networks.

The response to the program has been highly encouraging, drawing strong interest from employees across all four Odisha DISCOMs – TPCODL, TPNODL, TPSODL and TPWODL. Following a rigorous and transparent selection process, 80 employees were shortlisted, with equal representation from each DISCOM, ensuring balanced and inclusive capability development across regions. The founding batch represents a critical milestone in the organisation’s long-term people development and leadership pipeline strategy.

Structured to seamlessly integrate academic learning with real-world utility exposure, the WILP allows participants to directly apply classroom concepts to field operations. The curriculum places strong emphasis on network management, safety practices and emerging digital technologies in power distribution, enabling employees to enhance both technical competence and on-ground effectiveness.

The batch commencement ceremony was held in the presence of Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University, senior delegates from KIIT University, and leadership from Tata Power and Odisha DISCOMs, including Ranabir Chakraborty, Chief Business HR (T&D Cluster), Arvind Singh, CEO, TPCODL, Shyam Sundar Choudhury, Chief – Business HR (Odisha DISCOMs), K Rabi Achary, Head – HR, TPCODL, and Ramendra Banik, Head – HR, IR, ES & Admin, TPNODL.

Addressing the gathering, leaders from KIIT University and Tata Power highlighted that the initiative goes beyond academics and is a strategic investment in building technically sound, future-ready leaders for Odisha’s power distribution sector.
