Vedanta Aluminium, India’s
largest producer of aluminium, reinforced its ‘Zero Harm’ commitment by marking
the 37th National Road Safety Month 2026 with a series of coordinated,
high-impact road safety initiatives across its operations in Jharsuguda and
Lanjigarh. The month-long campaign engaged more than 2,000 employees, business
partners and members of the local community, promoting safer mobility and
responsible road behaviour across the regions it serves.
In
partnership with local authorities and community stakeholders, the company
rolled out highly visible campaigns focused on responsible driving, road
discipline and life safety. Anchored to the theme “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha”,
the initiatives featured a diverse mix of public engagement activities
including road safety quizzes, slogan competitions, a cyclothon, a road
safety-themed tank competition and targeted awareness drives, strengthening
safety consciousness at key community touchpoints.
At
Jharsuguda, Vedanta Aluminium conducted a large-scale road safety awareness
drive in collaboration with the Jharsuguda Regional Transport Office, reaching
nearly 1,000 people. A key highlight was a powerful nukkad
natak (street play) that vividly depicted the consequences of
unsafe driving while reinforcing the importance of helmet use and seatbelt
compliance. The campaign also encouraged proactive public participation through
the distribution of road safety badges, further amplifying the message of
responsible road behaviour.
In
Lanjigarh, the outreach extended deeper into the community through a road rally
carrying strong safety messaging, a school outreach programme that reached over
1,000 students across five schools, and a bike rally involving 100
participants. Nukkad
nataks were organised to spotlight the seriousness of traffic
violations, while driver welfare remained a key focus. Initiatives included a
free eye check-up camp for 70 drivers and the distribution and installation of
bicycle blinker lights to enhance night-time visibility for riders, reinforcing
the core message of “Life Safety” for all road users.
Commending
the initiative, Vedanta Aluminium CEO Rajiv Kumar said, “Road safety demands
awareness, discipline and a shared commitment from organisations and
communities alike. Our efforts were aimed at deepening awareness and empowering
employees, partners and communities to adopt safe road practices as a daily
discipline, helping drive meaningful and lasting behavioural change.”
Acknowledging
the company’s efforts, Pranaya Kumar Mishra, Regional Transport Officer,
Jharsuguda, said, “Vedanta Aluminium’s on-ground engagement has contributed
significantly to improving road safety awareness in Jharsuguda. Such
collaborations play a vital role in reinforcing responsible driving habits, and
we look forward to expanding this partnership further.”
Sharing
his experience, Malesh Naik, a heavy vehicle driver from Lanjigarh, said, “As
drivers, clear vision is our biggest responsibility. The free eye check-up gave
me greater confidence in my own safety and that of others on the road. Driving
long hauls, this initiative reminded me how important regular health checks are
for staying safe behind the wheel.”
Through these sustained and
inclusive efforts, Vedanta Aluminium continues to champion a strong culture of
safety, advancing its Zero Harm mission while contributing to safer roads and
more informed communities across its operational regions.
