Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Nitin Nabin on his election as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, underlining the primacy of organisational discipline and collective leadership within the party by remarking that in party matters, Nabin is the leader and he himself is only a party worker.

Addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, the Prime Minister described Nitin Nabin as the president of the world’s largest political party and said his role extends well beyond managing the organisation to ensuring seamless coordination among all National Democratic Alliance allies. “When it comes to the party, Nitin Nabin is the boss and I am a party worker. Now Nitin Nabin ji is the president of all of us. His responsibility is not limited to the BJP alone but also includes strengthening coordination among NDA partners,” PM Modi said.

Emphasising the significance of the period ahead, the Prime Minister said the next 25 years would be decisive for building a developed India and expressed confidence that Nitin Nabin would carry forward the BJP’s ideological legacy at the outset of this critical phase. Referring to generational change within the party, PM Modi described Nabin as part of a generation that has lived through profound economic, social and technological transformations, noting that the 45-year-old leader has grown up in an era that progressed from radio to artificial intelligence, blending youthful energy with deep organisational experience.

The Prime Minister said this unique combination would strengthen the party and energise workers across the country. He also highlighted the BJP’s sustained electoral success, observing that the party has defied the conventional trend of governments losing momentum after long periods in power. Citing recent election victories, PM Modi said the BJP has secured wins with larger margins in several states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, adding that the party’s electoral strike rate is unprecedented.

Describing the BJP as more than a political organisation, the Prime Minister said it functions as a tradition and a family, where bonds extend beyond formal membership. He underlined that while party presidents may change over time, the BJP’s ideals, values and direction remain constant. PM Modi also recalled the contributions of past leaders, stating that the party’s journey from its formative years to its current stature was shaped under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, and later strengthened by successive party presidents.

Earlier in the day, Nitin Nabin formally assumed charge as BJP national president during an organisational event at the party headquarters. The ceremony was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, outgoing BJP national president J P Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, senior party leaders and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states.

A five-time member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Nabin has also served as a Cabinet Minister in the Bihar government and is widely regarded for his strong organisational acumen and administrative experience. Born on May 23, 1980, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, he is the son of late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a senior BJP leader and a four-time MLA from Patna West.

Nabin entered electoral politics at a young age and was first elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2006 from the Patna West Assembly constituency. Since 2010, he has been consecutively elected from the Bankipur Assembly constituency, winning elections in 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025. During his tenure in the Bihar government, he handled key portfolios including Road Construction, Urban Development and Housing, and Law.

Alongside his legislative responsibilities, Nabin has played an active role in party organisation, holding important leadership positions at both the national and state levels, and has been entrusted with significant organisational responsibilities in states such as Sikkim and Chhattisgarh, positioning him as a key figure in steering the BJP through its next phase of growth and governance.
